Planning for the Future of the Nathan Hale Schoolhouses - Phase 2

The Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution was awarded $6,380 in CHDF planning support to complete planning for exhibitions and programs interpreting the Nathan Hale schoolhouses in East Haddam and New London. The project follows an initial planning grant received in 2006. CHC funds are sought to cover consultant fees, rental, postage, and printing.

Essex

Connecticut River Museum, $75,250

River Connections:  Implementation

The Connecticut River Museum (CRM) received $75,250 in CHDF support to install a new two-floor, long-term exhibition on the history of the Connecticut River. The grant follows 3 planning CHDF planning grants for the project.

Groton

Five Rivers Consortium Inc., $1,850

Celebration of Culture and Heritage in Southeastern Connecticut

The Five Rivers Consortium, an alliance of over twenty cultural organizations from Old Lyme to Stonington, was awarded $1,850 in CHDF support to host a one-day event at Waterford’s Crystal Mall to showcase area attractions. The membership includes large museums such as Mystic Seaport and the Pequot Museum to small all-volunteer organizations such as the East Lyme Historical Society.

Hamden

Connecticut League of History Organizations, $898

Connecticut League of History Organizations Out & About Program Supplemental

The Connecticut League of History Organizations (CLHO) was awarded $898.25 in CHDF Professional Development support to supplement a recent modest award for their Out & About hands-on, on-site workshops.

Antiquarian and Landmarks Society, $4,582

10th Annual Connecticut Collectors & Explorers Series - A Sense of Place:  A Survey of Connecticut's Architecture

The Antiquarian and Landmarks Society was awarded $4,582 to organize and promote its annual Connecticut Collectors and Explorers Series.  This year’s series provides a survey of Connecticut architecture.

Center for First Amendment Rights, $5,000

14th Annual Milton Sorokin Symposium on The First Amendment:  Freedom of Expression & National Security

The Center for First Amendment Rights (CFAR) received $5,000 in CHDF support to host their 14th annual First Amendment Rights symposium scheduled for May 7th at the UConn Law School.

Greater Hartford Association of Historic Houses and Museums, $1,882

2007 GHAHHM Interpreter Training Symposium

The GHAHHM was awarded $1,881.60 in CHDF support to present its annual one-day professional development program to provide training to their interpreters.

Harriet Beecher Stowe Center, $60,250

Harriet Beecher Stowe Center:  Building an Audience-Focused Museum

The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center was awarded a major $60,250 CHDF Implementation grant for a 15-month project to create and implement an audience-focused museum. The project involves improved customer services and an enhanced museum experience. This builds on a $24,000 planning grant in 2003.

Mystic Seaport Museum, $3,647

Mystic Seaport Black History Month Programming

Mystic Seaport Museum received $3,647 in funding to underwrite thematic programming on West African cultural legacy as part of its annual Black History Month

New London

New London County Historical Society, $4,250

Thames River Heritage 2007

The New London County Historical Society, on behalf of numerous cultural organizations on both sides of the Thames River, was awarded $4,250 in CHDF support to host six months of programming to celebrate and promote the maritime heritage of the Thames River.

New London Main Street, $19,711

New London Through Time and Place 2007

New London Main Street (NLMS), one of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s many Main Street programs in Connecticut, received $19,711 in Implementation support to once again mount a multi-site moving, living-history play to physically and thematically link A& L’s Hempstead Houses, New London County Historical Society’s Shaw Perkins Mansion, the Custom House Maritime Museum, and the Henry Hobson Richardson designed Train Station. New London Main Street will collaborate with Flock Theater, a local theater company in the city. The project previously received planning support to develop the script and $22,000 last year to pilot the play.

Salisbury

Salisbury Association, Inc., $5,000

Holley Williams House Collections Project

The Salisbury Association in Salisbury was awarded $5,000 to engage a curator to manage the documentation project of the collections held at the Association’s Holley Williams House.

Stamford

Stamford Historical Society, $1,300

Polska Ziemia:  The Development of Stamford's Polish Community  1880-1950

The Stamford Historical Society was awarded $1,300 in CHDF funding for the third installment in its series of exhibits on local immigrant ethnic groups. Funds will be used for content research and the development of ancillary curriculum materials as well as exhibit panels.

Stonington

Stonington Historical Society, $4,500

Revised and Augmented Edition, John Lawrence Davis's Meroir, "The Davis Homestead"

The Stonington Historical Society was awarded $4,500 in CHDF support to republish an updated account of life on one of the state’s oldest continuously operated farm, the seventeenth-century Stanton-Davis farm.

West Hartford

Noah Webster House, $25,250

Tomorrow's Museum

The Noah Webster House received $25,250 in CHDF planning support to publicly launch a major revitalization project that will include interpretive planning, exhibit planning, pre-production work on a new documentary film, and development of new school programs. CHC funds will be used to support staff salaries, consultant fees, and minimal travel, supplies, and printing. This request will be matched by a combination of grants, operating funds, and donated services.

Woodbury

Seabury Society for the Preservation of the Glebe House, Inc., $2,500

History Bites:  New England's Industrious Past

Glebe House received $2,500 for the seventh year of its lunchtime lecture series, "History Bites." Targeted primarily at staff and volunteers of history organizations in Litchfield County, this program consists of volunteer-led lectures held at ten different sites in a brown-bag lunch format. CHC support is requested for honoraria, brochure printing, mailing costs, and advertising, and will be matched with personnel costs, supplies, design fees, refreshments, and other incidental expenses.
