The
Tercentenary Series
Another
work that merits inclusion here is the series of sixty pamphlet
published between 1933 and 1936 by the Committee on Historical
Publications of the Tercentenary Commission of the State of Connecticut.
The pamphlets range from about twenty to sixty pages, and a good
number include maps and illustrations. They vary in quality from
the superior scholarly work of Charles M. Andrews and Lawrence
Gipson to some rather inconsequential and superficial essays,
but for the most part they are well done and authoritative. Quite
a few, especially the scholarly works, are reprintings of material
that originally appeared elsewhere, and we have noted those cases.
In 1936 you could buy the whole set for $16 and some are still
available through the State publications office. They are listed,
with short biographical notices of the authors and a flimsy index,
in The Tercentenary Pamphlet Series and its Contributors
(New Haven, 1936). Most of them are included in this bibliography
at appropriate points.
