Ephraim Kirby (1757-1804)

Briceland, Alan V. "Ephraim Kirby: Pioneer of American Law Reporting, 1789." American Journal of Legal History 16(1972):297-319. "Kirby's contribution to American Law was not in the style of his Reports, but in their subject and timing. By authoring the first published volume documenting decisions rendered on American rather than English soil, Kirby reinforced and carried forward, in a fledgling republic that was rejecting much that was English, the important English tradition of common law reporting." (p. 297) See also Briceland's dissertation on Kirby listed elsewhere.
