David Humphreys (1752-1818)

Clancy, John J., Jr. "David Humphreys: A forgotten American." Doctoral dissertation, St. John's University, 1970. A study of Humphreys' politics and character which makes good use of manuscript sources.

Howard, Leon. The Connecticut Wits. Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1943. Check the index for location of annotation.

Humphreys, Francis Landon. Life and Times of David Humphreys, Soldier-Statesman-Poet, 'Belov'd of Washington.' New York: G.P. Putnam's, 1917. Humphreys as a public person; good Connecticut material, though not a lot of it. No bibliography or citations, but an excellent index. A useful work.

Marble, Ann Russell. "David Humphreys: His Services to American Freedom and Industry." New England Magazine. N.s. (September, 1903. February, 1904). Nice piece by the author of a long-standard study of the Connecticut wits. Good illustrations.
