Bingham, Harold J. History of Connecticut. 4 vols. New York: Lewis Historical Pub­lishing Co., 1902. Volume IV is devoted to biography; many portraits and sev­eral hundred biographies of notable Connecticut people.

Burpee, Charles Winslow. Story of Connecticut. 4 vols. New York: The American Historical Co., 1939. Volumes 1 and 2 are general history; volumes 3 and 4 are personal and family records, in which there are hundreds of biographies, ranging from 300 to several thousand words each. The biographies are straightforward and informative, though somewhat laudatory. Many illustra­tions.

Chadwick, Earl Leslie. The Conservative Advocate: a Book of Biographies of Connecti­cut's Successful Men, with Essays on Conservatism by Well Known Writers. Hartford: E. L. Chadwick, 1909. To show the success of "conservative men." This is obvi­ously a one-sided presentation.

Representative Citizens of Connecticut; Biographical, Memoral. New York, 1916. About 750 biographies, each with references to family history.

Representative Men of Connecticut, 1801-1894. Everett, Mass.: Massachusetts Pub­lishing Co., 1894.

Who's Who in Connecticut New York: Lewis Historical Publishing Co., 1933. Short biographies of prominent living people. Preface mentions inclusions for the next volume, but there is no trace of it.
